We don’t have to wait until we are happy to make ourselves happy…just smile.
With the Olympics having just ended, many of us may remember when Gracie Gold, an ice skating metal contender, fell hard after trying to land a triple lutz in front of thousands of people in the Iceberg Skating Palace as millions of others were watching on TV. Gracie immediately bounced up with a huge smile on her face, no matter how much pain she may have been in – not to mention the disappointment and embarrassment she must have felt.
The crowd gave her a big ovation as her smile convinced them that the fall didn’t matter and everything was just fine. Gracie’s smile must have also convinced herself that everything was okay.
In a recent interview Gracie Gold told the reporter that she would visualize her routines to motivate her to push harder. (Visualization is a form of self-hypnosis which helped propel her forward in accomplishing her goals no matter how many times she fell.)
It’s easy to lose confidence and feel bad when we ‘fall,’ but smiling and laughing helps to release endorphins, a hormone that triggers feelings of happiness and well-being…just like Gracie so beautifully displayed to the world. It is not what happens to you, but how you respond to what happens to you.
When you smile about the life you live, you end up living a life worth smiling about.
It only takes one person to make you happy, and that’s YOU!
