Get fired up, laugh, release and get ready for a fresh new perspective and expand your view on what is possible for yourself and our world.
Global Belly Laugh Day is a holiday observed annually on January 24th at 1:24 p.m. (your local time). This is a day to smile, chuckle, throw your arms in the air, and laugh out loud. Laugh and celebrate the good things in life.
You may wonder how you can laugh for the heck of it…well, you can.
Many years ago, I became a certified Laugh Leader (laughter yoga). I flew to another state and spent three days laughing. At first, I found it ridiculous and couldn’t get in the grove as other participants were all having fun, pretending things were funny, and even fake laughing. I observed them, then reflected on how I was feeling. I liked their chuckles and smiles versus my cynicism…and that’s when I decided to join in and have fun, even if I had to fake it until I made it. It worked!!!
Have you ever noticed when seeing a baby giggle, it’s organic to giggle with them? The same thing applies watching an animal doing crazy things. That’s how easily laughter can occur.
Global Belly Laugh Day is dedicated to celebrating the gifts of laughter, which has many holistic benefits and is known to make people feel more positive, improve one’s immune systems, and generally make people feel happier and more energetic.
Benefits of Laughter:
Boosts Immunity – People who laugh more are less likely to be sick; it improves the immune system and overall health and increases neuropeptides that protect the body from illness and disease.
Reduces Stress: Laughter creates a feeling of relaxation and soothes tension thus enhancing a general sense of well-being and happiness.
Releases Endorphins: Laughter helps elevate one’s mood. It has an analgesic effect on the body when endorphins are released, increasing one’s pain threshold.
Burns Calories – Laughing for 10 minutes can burn up to 40 calories.
This day is a reminder to take a break from all stress and laugh to your heart’s content.
Laughter yoga is a practice that involves voluntary, intentional laughter, even if there isn’t necessarily something funny happening. Clubs can be found worldwide where participants gather daily to intentionally laugh together, producing a sense of playfulness and well-being. Many times, the silliness of intentional laughter can actually strike people as funny and turn into genuine laughter. The body and mind benefit from the practice of laughter yoga.
Research has shown that people who laugh together are more likely to develop stronger bonds with each other and strengthen relationships.
This is one day out of the year to get people everywhere engaged in a good old-fashioned belly laugh! Belly Laugh Day aims to remind people of the gifts of laughter and encourage people to spread laughter in their lives and the lives of others. Share the joy!
Join millions of others as we participate in Belly Laugh Bounce Around the World.
Happy New Year!
Make kindness a habit.
