“A tree as big around as you can reach, starts with a small seed; a thousand-mile journey starts with one small step.” ~Lao Tse
It’s never too late to start something new, but we’ve all heard ourselves say, “I don’t have time” or “it’s too hard” or “I’m tired” or “I’m too old…” If you find yourself using any of these excuses as reasons not to pursue something that you’ve always wanted, change that mindset, hush that inner voice, and just do it.
It doesn’t matter when you start; it just matters that you start. The rewarding results have no age limit; therefore, try something new and never look back!
In 2005 I had a client who at the age of 40 came to me for hypnosis to perfect her skills and confidence as a surfer. This was a hobby she started as a birthday gift she gave herself for her 37th birthday. Her biggest hurdle was overcoming her doubts and the doubts of others. She came to realize that no matter what your goals are, pure determination, patience, and hard work will always pay off…and she continues to apply this attitude to other aspects of her life.
We all owe it to ourselves to figure out what has held us back from doing the things we yearn to do, but make excuses as to why we just don’t do it (as of yet). If you want something and are passionate about it, there are no limits.
For those who have always wanted to pursue a passion, start a new hobby, go back to school, or even change a career path—but have been hesitant to make these changes later in life—remember, later is very misleading. None of us know how much longer we have to live, so treat your life as if the time is NOW. Unfold your curious mind, give yourself a chance, and get out there. You might be surprised at how much joy is waiting to be discovered.
The door is unlocked. It’s up to you to open it.
