“What we have once enjoyed we can never lose…all that we love deeply becomes a part of us.” ~ Helen Keller
We have all been experiencing a huge shift in our lives. We were shaken and rattled. Over the past few months, we’ve had to give up our ‘former’ life, no matter how good, bad or indifferent it was. In the beginning many of us found ourselves wobbling, trying to get a grip on things as our lives were suddenly halted. It felt like having the rug pulled out from beneath us.
This reminds me of the life cycle of a butterfly. The caterpillar spins itself a shiny chrysalis (cocoon like sack) and within its protective casing the caterpillar radically transforms, eventually emerging as a butterfly. Prior to changing into a butterfly, it has no idea of its transformation.
A butterfly may not remember being a caterpillar, yet (it’s been scientifically proven) it can remember some of the experiences it learned as a caterpillar.
This dramatic change in the life cycle of a butterfly is a powerful metaphor for our own lives. We too are evolving from the person we were to the essence of the person we are emerging into with greater wisdom; taking the experience and lessons of the past and applying it to now.
During our own life’s transition inside the shelter of our cocoon, we’ve had to step back and reflect with a deeper sense of awareness within ourselves and our relationships; especially with family. Continue to pause and appreciate your inner strength. Remember, through adversities we receive our greatest gifts.
Alisha Keys says it so well in her song; “Brand New Me”. … “It’s been a while, I’m not who I was before…I’ve found a brand new kind of free…It’s a brand new kind of me…”
As we continue to journey with the changing fabrics of our lives, remember to emerge as the brand-new kind of you.
