Affirmations are declarations that reflect our view of who we are and what we want. They can be positive and sometimes even negative, as they influence our feelings and thoughts and what actually happens in our lives.
Louise J. Hay, inspirational author and motivational speaker, shared a story about growing up in an abusive family. As a child she believed it was natural for men to beat women, therefore in her early adult years she always attracted men who abused her. It wasn’t until she learned about her own self-esteem and self-worth that she was able to let go of that pattern of thinking. As a result, she started to attract men who valued and respected her.
Positive affirmations don’t miraculously create new reality, but they do open the mental channels that can allow for good things to happen. Adding hypnotic techniques of visualization and guided imagery strengthen the affirmations, turning them more into a reality. Hypnosis and hypnotherapy are therapeutic processes for habitual and emotional clearing by accessing one’s higher self to empower desired goals. People can learn to draw upon positive inner resources, heighten awareness for optimal performance, unlock hidden potential, and create a pathway for positive change.
Learn to turn negative statements into positive statements.
Statements such as, “I don’t want to be fat,” “I don’t like my job,” and “I don’t like to exercise,” are actually negative affirmations. Dwelling on things that we don’t want merely creates more mental space for those things to thrive.
When delivered as positive affirmations, the statements above become, “I am slender,” “I have a great job,” and “I enjoy exercising.”
Most of us have trained ourselves to be self-critical. It is important to change our thinking by training ourselves to be self-accepting, yet for some that may seem hard to do. People who are happy and self-confident welcome good things into their lives by attracting positive people, and by creating possibilities and opportunities.
Whatever your thoughts are and have strong feelings about will manifest in your life. Your thoughts when combined with your feelings create your world. It may not seem like that is always true when you feel like a victim of circumstances trying to figure out the rules of a complex game. But by shifting your thought patterns to affirm what to think about and by taking control with positive thoughts, you will be amazed at what you can create.
Remember to put yourself high on your list of priorities and affirm daily…because “wherever you go, there you are,” so you might as well realize your magnificence and affirm that daily.
“Nothing is good or bad, only thinking makes it so.” ~Hamlet
