I read this beautiful message recently, and I want to share it with my community.
I hired a plumber to help me restore an old rental house, and after he finished a rough first day on the job, he reflected on his day—having a flat tire in the morning, which caused him to lose an hour of work, his electric drill quit, and now his ancient one-ton truck refused to start.
While I was driving him home, he sat quietly. When we arrived, he invited me inside to meet his family. As we approached the front porch, he paused briefly at a small tree, touching the tips of its branches with both hands.
As he opened the door, he felt an incredible change. His face brightened with a smile as he hugged his two young children and kissed his wife.
Afterward, he walked me to the car. We passed the tree, and my curiosity got the best of me. I asked him about the transformation I noticed in him after he touched the tree branches.
‘Oh, that’s my trouble tree,’ he replied. ‘I know I can’t help having troubles at work, but one thing’s for sure, those troubles don’t belong in the house with my wife and children… So I hang them up on the tree every night when I come home, then, in the morning, I pick them up again.’ ‘Funny thing is,’ he smiled, ‘when I come out in the morning to pick them up, there aren’t nearly as many as I remember hanging them up the night before. And that prepares me for a better day.”
A small change in attitude can help us see the hidden potential for fulfillment and happiness.
We all need the gift of a ‘trouble’ tree!
Make kindness a habit.
