Look in the mirror and see yourself the way others see you.
When we accept compliments graciously, we recognize that others see us through their eyes and may see us differently than how we view ourselves. Many people struggle to accept praise.
It’s important to receive compliments as openly as we receive gifts. Genuine praise reflects appreciation—whether it recognizes an achievement or celebrates the light you bring. Accepting kind words from others allows us to honor what they see and feel in us.
Consider a compliment as a form of positive, radiant energy from the giver. Receiving it graciously allows that energy to brighten your personal space, and your gratitude returns it with warm, luminous energy, fostering a cycle of positive emotions. Declining a compliment turns a joyful exchange into an awkward moment, diminishing the connection. To preserve modesty, simply respond with “thank you.”
If you’re feeling lonely or left out, low self-esteem may be playing a part. A gentle first step is to nurture your self-confidence. Try offering yourself a kind compliment in the mirror—it might feel a little awkward at first, but with time, you may notice your mood lifting and a warmer, more genuine smile looking back at you.
Compliment others and enjoy how it lifts everyone’s mood, including your own, bringing sunshine to your day. Pay close attention to how your kind words are received—whether they’re welcomed with open arms or not—and use those moments to learn to graciously accept praise yourself. Many of us tend to be too hard on ourselves, but accepting compliments reminds us that others see us in a positive light. Since everyone loves a little positive recognition, embracing praise with happiness and gratitude can inspire others to do the same, creating a friendly, uplifting environment.
Make kindness a habit…
